Dryer runs but will not heat
On electric dryers, a blown heating element or thermal fuse. On gas dryers, failed igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils — the igniter is the single most common part we replace.
Clothes take two or three cycles to dry
Nearly always restricted airflow: a lint-packed vent duct, a crushed transition hose behind the machine, or a blocked exterior vent flap.
Drum will not turn
A snapped drive belt is the usual answer, followed by seized idler pulley bearings or a failed drive motor.
Burning smell during operation
Stop using it. Lint has accumulated against the heating element or in the vent line. This is the failure mode behind most dryer fires.
Dryer shuts off part way through
An overheating thermal cutoff doing its job because of restricted airflow, or a failing thermistor feeding bad data to the control board.
Squealing or grinding noise
Worn drum rollers, glides or a bad idler pulley. Cheap parts, but they wreck the drum if left long enough.
Vent Airflow Is Usually the Real Problem
In many Queens homes and apartment buildings, the dryer vents through a long duct run to the outside wall or roof. Over years that duct packs with lint, and the symptom shows up as a dryer that will not dry rather than one that will not heat. Replacing parts on a machine with a blocked vent just breaks the new parts too.
