Runs but does not heat food
A failed magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. These hold a lethal charge even unplugged, which is why this repair belongs with a technician.
Sparking or arcing inside
A burned waveguide cover, damaged cavity paint, or metal contact. Stop using it immediately — continued arcing destroys the magnetron.
Touchpad or display not responding
Membrane switch failure or a control board fault. Common on units above a range, where heat and steam shorten the panel's life.
Turntable will not rotate
A simple turntable motor or a stripped coupler — one of the cheaper repairs we do.
Loud buzzing or humming
Usually a magnetron beginning to fail, or a cooling fan with worn bearings.
Door will not latch or unit stops mid-cycle
Interlock switches, which are a safety system. A microwave should never be run with a defeated interlock.
Over-the-Range Installations
Over-the-range microwaves double as your kitchen vent hood, and they are mounted into the cabinet above the range with a wall bracket. Removing and refitting one safely takes two people and the correct mounting hardware — done badly, the unit sags or the vent is left blowing back into the room.
